Lake Crescent and Mount Storm King

The climb to the top of Mount Storm King offers a lofty view of the Lake Crescent. In less than two miles, the trail takes you about 1,700 feet above the lake getting steeper as you go.

At a certain point, a sign says something like “End of the maintained trail,” but many hikers accept this as a challenge to continue to the top. The trail curves into a precarious slope, where previous hikers have tied ropes to the trees to assist in the ascent. Trusting their knot work and leaning back with each step, the uneven summit offers a rewarding panorama of the deep blue lake.
